Curry/Samara Model Training Options

Curry/Samara Model (CSM) Overview develops an understanding of the Curry/Samara Model of Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment. Discussion includes an overview of this integrated, standards based approach to teaching and learning. CSM addresses differentiation from three dimensions: content, process and product; this overview session focuses on concrete strategies to bring about increased levels of success for all students.

Recommended length: ½ or 1 full day.

Administrative Awareness Work-Session is an excellent way to allow building and district administrators to learn about the Curry/Samara Model of Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment, and to discuss ways in which implementation might unfold within selected schools or across an entire district.

Recommended length: ½ or 1 full day; option to incorporate monthly, hour long meetings with other long term staff development.

Unit Writing Institutes are designed to help educators incorporate their state standards into dynamic instructional units and lesson plans. Participants use UnitWriter 2 software which: (1) has state standards built in for several states plus the ability to cut and paste from any document into our format; (2) is so easy to learn - even novice computer users enjoy the technical expertise they gain. We also have tools to post units on the Internet for sharing. Click here to check out an example on the Indiana Department of Education's website.

Recommended length: 1-3 days depending on the agency's desired outcomes.

Guided Unit Writing is a follow-up to a Unit Writing Institute in which participants develop units of study and lesson plans on an ongoing basis. This can be done with the guidance of a Curriculum Project consultant and/or with in-district unit writing facilitators who can be trained during the Unit Writing Institute. Technical tools are available for posting the units on the Internet for sharing across campuses.

Video/ Multi-media Training will begin during the 2010-2011 school year. Specific components of CSM and its categories of instructional strategies will be presented in short clips with supporting handout material provided to guide on site discussions.
